Spring cleaning is officially in full swing at our house! And although certain spring cleaning tasks are always going to be on my radar (like organizing closets and cleaning the oven, for instance), other tasks are pretty easy to overlook. So today I’ve partnered up with Powerizer to put together a list of spring cleaning tasks that often go overlooked!
You’ll learn why these tasks are important to address during spring cleaning, and I’ll show you some easy methods for tackling these tasks using Powerizer Complete, my favorite do-it-all detergent. By the end of this post, you’ll be armed with the information you need to leave your home cleaner, fresher, and more ready for spring than ever before!
1. Allergen Magnets
Most of us are really diligent about keeping certain fabric items clean, like clothes and bedding. But it’s easy to forget that other fabric items need to be cleaned as well! Things like stuffed animals, throw pillows, curtains, pet beds, and throw rugs can easily become magnets for dust and allergens if they’re neglected for too long. Keeping these items clean, deodorized, and free of allergens can help cut down on your springtime sniffles!
Pre-treating these items with Powerizer will oxidize and dissolve tough stains and oils, helping them to come out perfectly clean after just one wash. To pre-treat, add 1 scoop of Powerizer to 1 gallon of hot water in your sink or a bucket, and stir to dissolve. Soak the items for about 6 hours, then wring gently and transfer them to your washing machine.
To use Powerizer Complete as a laundry detergent, just add 1 scoop of Powerizer Complete to a standard-sized load. It cleans and softens fabric without the need for additional laundry boosters or fabric softeners!
2. Decorative Containers
Decorative containers like vases and jars are easy to forget about when it comes to cleaning. But those items typically stay in one place, which means they’re collecting dirt, grime, and plenty of dust. Make sure to give your decorative containers a good scrub during your spring cleaning efforts!
To clean your containers, just put them in your dishwasher and add ¾ scoop of Powerizer Complete to your dishwasher’s detergent cup. Powerizer is an excellent dish detergent because of the way it binds with and whisks away minerals like calcium and magnesium. Other detergents don’t work that way, which is why they tend to leave hard water marks behind on your clean dishes.
If your dishes never come out quite as clean as you’d like, you’ve got to give this a try! Continue Reading
If you don’t have a dishwasher or your containers aren’t dishwasher-friendly, soaking them in your sink is a great alternative! Add 1 scoop of Powerizer to a sink full of hot water, then stir the water to dissolve the detergent. Add your containers and let them soak for an hour or so. Then just rinse, dry, and put your clean containers back on display!
3. Range Hood Filter
Your range hood does the important job of collecting airborne grease while you’re cooking, keeping it from adhering to your walls and ceiling. But your range hood can only work effectively if you keep the filter inside it clean! Spring cleaning is a perfect opportunity to give your range hood filter a thorough degreasing.
To clean your range hood filter, first check the user manual for your range hood to find out if the filter is dishwasher-safe. If it is, just place the filter in your empty dishwasher, add 1 scoop of Powerizer Complete, and run a wash cycle to get rid of all that grease.
4. Shower Caddies & Shelves
Hanging shower caddies and removable shower shelves are a convenient place to store your bath products. But they can also be a magnet for soap scum, rust, and mildew, so it’s important to give them a thorough cleaning every once in a while!
To clean your shower caddy, shelf, or other accessories, start by adding 1 scoop of Powerizer Complete to 16 ounces of hot water. Stir to dissolve the powder, then pour the solution into a squeeze bottle. Place your shower accessories in your bathtub, then squirt the Powerizer solution over them. Let the solution soak in for about 10 minutes, then wipe or scrub them to remove the grime. Rinse the items well, let them dry, and replace them in your shower.
5. Garbage Disposal
Your garbage disposal comes in contact with all kinds of food residues, and those residues can build up in and around the drain of your skin. Take a few minutes during your spring cleaning efforts to give your garbage disposal some much needed TLC!
To clean your garbage disposal, start by preparing a solution of 1 scoop of Powerizer Complete and 16 ounces of hot water. Pour it into a squeeze bottle, and apply the cleaning solution to a cleaning cloth. Use the saturated cloth to wipe both sides of the rubber disposal guard in your sink, then rinse well. Sprinkle a bit of Powerizer directly into the garbage disposal, and use a squeeze bottle of water to saturate the inside of the disposal. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes, then run hot water through the drain and turn on the disposal for a few seconds. This will loosen up any gunk that may have been stuck to the blades, and leave your garbage disposal smelling fresh and clean!
6. Trash Can
Unpleasant odors can linger in your trash can, even after you’ve taken out the trash! Whether the smells is caused by spills, splatters, or hidden food residue, a good cleaning can eliminate the smell and restore your trash can to a cleaner, fresher state.
To clean your trash can, start by preparing the Powerizer Complete cleaning solution I described previously. Load the cleaning solution into a squirt bottle, and apply it liberally to the inside and outside of your trash can. Give it a good scrub to loosen up any stubborn trash grime, then rinse the can well with clean water. Let it dry completely before putting a new trash bag in.
7. Underneath Chairs & Tables
Until quite recently, I don’t think it had ever occurred to me that I should be cleaning the underside of my tables and chairs! But if you think about it, those areas are often handled by dirty hands before, during, and after meals. Put these areas on your spring cleaning to-do list to eliminate any greasy residues that might be lingering there!
To clean hard surfaces under tables and chairs, prepare the Powerizer cleaning solution and apply it to a clean cloth. Use the saturated cloth to wipe grease and grime off of those hard surfaces. To clean upholstered surfaces, use the same cleaning solution in a squeeze bottle. Apply it to the dirty areas on your upholstery, wait about 5 minutes, then blot with a clean, wet cloth. Repeat until the dirt/stain is gone, then blot with a clean, dry cloth to dry the area.
